Two Rivers Park Bridge

"On weekends, tens of thousands of walkers, runners and bike riders from around Little Rock now cross the new Two Rivers Park bridge to enjoy the beautiful open spaces and the many activities the Park offers," says Gene Gephardt of Curtis Stout, Inc., regional lighting representatives who helped create the bridge's lighting program. Including approaches, the $5.3 million span extends for 2,620 feet over the Arkansas River, and each lane is 15 feet wide.

With 80% of the bridge's funding provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Highway Administration, the City of Little Rock's representatives participated in the selection of a cost-efficient, smoothly-operating lighting system. "In a testing session, Lumenpulse out-performed the other firms' products on color, brightness and sturdy construction," says Gephardt, adding, "Another concern by the city's representatives was support of the linear LEDs, and we demonstrated that the Lumenpulse hardware was engineered to meet their specifications."

Fixtures were set on both sides of the bridge. Lumenfacade Color Changing luminaires are mounted over the truss to beam light upward. Meanwhile, Lumencove XT Color Changing fixtures are installed underneath the structure so that the water reflects the light.

From dusk to daybreak, an astronomical clock switches the lights on and off. A Pharos DMX controller programs 12 different light sequences, with the ability to add more presentations for special events or holidays. "The bridge's light shows have become a popular public attraction in themselves," Gephardt reports.
